Highlights from the Second Annual Sweet Deals

Girl Scouts of Green Hills Council held its 2nd Annual Sweet Deals event on March 28 at the Eagle Ridge Spa and Resort in Galena. Over 125 guests attended the premier adult generated fund-raising event. Celebrating the “Girl” in Girl Scouting featured an evening of exciting deals in 5 rounds of silent auctions, a live auction by Rick Garnhart of Pro-Auctions, LLC of German Valley and a chef competition highlighting an array of decadent desserts made with Girl Scout Cookies. Desserts were judged in three categories: best taste, most creative with ingredients and most creative eye-appeal.
Winners in the Best Taste category were: 1st place, Betsy Kinder, 2nd place, Linda Setchell and Stuart McCray, KSB Hospital and 3rd place was Nancy Biddick from Sisters at Sinsinawa Mound.
Most creative with ingredients winners included: 1st place, Tamera Schreiner, Sullivan Foods, 2nd place, Carolyn Dregne and 3rd place, Linda Setchell and Stuart McCray, KSB Hospital.
In the category Most Creative Eye Appeal, winners were: 1st place, Tamera Thiessen, 2nd place, Linda Setchell and Stuart McCray, KSB Hospital, and 3rd place, Candice Cole, Cole’s Confectionary.
Other chef participants included: Doris Hentrick, Sisters of Sinsinawa, Randy Hoppman and Victor Averez, Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, Emily Hagerty, Culinary Student-Kendall College, Tara Klockner and Sheila Wells, Great Galena Cookery. All desserts were auctioned in the silent and live auctions held.

The Girl Scouts of Green Hills Council would like to thank the many volunteers and troops working on the event, all the merchants who donated to the auctions, table sponsors, attendees of the event and Doug Collins-QueenB Radio in Platteville, emcee for the evening. The evening raised over $13,000, which will help sustain the many Leadership Development Programs for girls in grades K-12.
